Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist, as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a wide range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues like that of the Iran Contra controversy.
